You are looking forward to being in your new space, you are ecstatic that you are finally getting that new home you’ve always dreamed of… but what will it look like? Can you visualize it? Can you feel that fresh new carpet beneath your feet and feel that smooth new countertop on the palm of your hand?
Designing your dream home is just as important to us as it is to you. Here are some helpful tips to keep in mind as you prepare for your first meeting at the design studio!
As you prepare to design your dream space, check out social media sites such as Pinterest and Houzz to get a sense of what is visually appeasing to you and makes you feel happiest. Use these to narrow down what color palettes draw you in, what style cabinets you find appealing, and what elements will make your new home unique to you. Have a list of ideas prepared for your designer of things that are important for you to absolutely NEED and things that are bonus features that you’d really LIKE to have. Understand your lifestyle and think about what design choices will make you the most comfortable in your new space. Feel free to bring in pictures on your phone, computer, or even pages from magazines that will help your designer bring your vision to life. As designer and colorizer Amy Snyder says,
“I have often suggested buying a few house type magazines and flipping thru those for inspiration and ideas. You can tear out certain pages that really speak to you and this way you are helping to communicate to your designer with a tool that is easy to relay. Sometimes it is helpful to take a Saturday and walk a few models to get a real feel for your likes and dislikes, and to be able to touch, feel, see, “live on” potential applications for your home.”
Walking into the design studio may make you feel a lot like a kid in a candy store. Everything is shiny and new and there are hundreds of choices and combinations to potentially make your home just right. Having a clear understanding of your budget will help you and your designer pick the perfect features for you and your lifestyle without breaking the bank. This will ensure that your needs get met to the best of our ability and help fit any additional upgrades in if possible. If you don’t have a plan when it comes to your budget, the process can quickly become overwhelming.
“It is important to have conversations about lifestyle and priorities prior to your appointment with a workable budget in mind. Try to communicate about what applications are of most importance to you, so that we can streamline your needs and make the most of your design appointment. The goal of your design appointment is to bring your vision to life and create a space that you can see yourself in for years to come.” ~Amy Snyder
